About Us

Grand Island Kennel Club is an all breed dog club established in 1956. We offer dog training classes in conformation/showmanship as well as obedience, agility and rally classes. Members volunteer their time and talents to maintaining our own training building in Grand Island, Nebraska and offering affordable training classes to dog owners. Board and General Meetings

Board Meetings will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of each Month. Usually at 7pm at the Club House unless there is a conflict. Members are welcome!

During General Meetings, Speakers on occasion will bring us informative information regarding our canine friends.

Classes Offered

Beginning and Advanced Obedience Training

Beginning Obedience is an 8 week 1 hour session designed to introduce you and your dog to Obedience. Lessons Include: Heel on a loose lead, Automatic Sits, Stays, Come when Called, Down.
After completion of beginners obedience a CGC (Canine Good Citizen)training and testing can be taken. CGC is the title offered from AKC to all dogs, all breeds and mixed breeds that complete a series of 10 exercises demonstrating they have learned to be good canine citizens.

More advanced classes are available to continue working on basic skills.

Conformation & Showmanship

This is a 6 week class that meets for 1 hour weekly on Wednesday nights at 7pm. This class teaches the art of showing your dog in breed. Learn how to fill out entries, what attire is expected and how to train you and your dog for competition in the AKC wonderful world of dog shows.

Puppy Socialization

Puppy Kindergarten is a 4 week class offered to teach puppies ages 10 weeks to 4 months basic obedience lessons, housetraining, and social skills. Work on no jumping, redirected chewing, and becoming great family members.

Rally

Rally is a fun new sport that incorporates a little Agility with relaxed Obedience. There will be different levels offered dependent on participant request.

Agility

Jumps, Tunnels, Speeding over A-Frames - - This is Agility! Level One covers basic skills to build a dog's confidence going through obstacles and over jumps. Young dogs are taught basics at lower heights. Dogs must have basic obedience skills. In order to move on to different levels, you must have successfully completed the level before. These classes are 1 hour - once weekly sessions as follows:
Level 1 Introduction - 6 weeks
Level 2 - 6 weeks
